Abigail Leong


Abigail Leong is a student at The King’s Academy in Sunnyvale, California and started learning cello at the age of four. She currently studies with Jonathan Koh. Abigail soloed with the El Camino Youth Symphony orchestra when she was eight. At the age of ten, Abigail soloed at Carnegie Hall performing the Saint­-Saens Cello Concerto. She loves chamber music and is enjoying her first year in Young Chamber Musicians. Previously, she studied chamber music at the California Music Preparatory Academy for three years. Recently Abigail won first place at the KAMSA competition and first place at the DVC/HNU string competition. Last year she won the California MTNA competition and was a divisional finalist for the MTNA Southwest Division. Abigail also won first place at the VOCE state competition and was first place winner of the Pacific Musical Society Foundation competition. She also won the first place President’s Award at the Burlingame Music Club competition. Abigail has won two first place awards at the United States International Music Competition and was selected as a Fremont Symphony Orchestra Young Recitalist Competition winner. She was also selected as a soloist at the Junior Bach competition. Abigail enjoys music outreach for retirement homes and hospitals, as one of her goals is to share music with others. In her spare time Abigail likes to dance tap, hip hop, and jazz, enjoying the beautiful choreography of the dances.
