Sophia Motai

I am a junior at Tenafly High School, NJ and play violin in its Honor Orchestra as a principal. I studied at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege program in the studio of pedagogue Elizabeth Faidley and played in the Symphony Orchestra. I have just started a quintet chamber group at the New York Youth Symphony and will premiere the commissioned contemporary piece at the Carnegie Hall in May 2018.

I won the first prize from the United States Classical International Music Competition this September and will perform in the Winners’ concert at the Carnegie Hall this November. I also won the third prize from Enkor International Music Competition this July. I have performed in master classes with prominent violinists such as Ray Chen, Vadim Gluzman and Elizabeth Chang. I participated in the 2017 ""Music for All"" National Festival in Indianapolis this March and was featured as a soloist with the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra this April. I have played in the NJ Regional Orchestra for five years and was chosen as a principal in 2017. I have also played in the NJ All State Orchestra for three years and will perform in NJPAC for the NJASO this November again.

I have attended various summer music programs since 2009 including the Summit Music Festival, the Kinhaven Music Camp, and the Aria International Summer Academy where I studied with Katie Lansdale and Peter Zazofsky.
