Sean Lee


Sean Lee, age sixteen, started playing the cello at age eight and currently studies with Jonathan Koh. He spent summers at the San Francisco Conservatory and Meadowmount School of Music. Recently he won first prize at the American Protégé Concerto Competition and will perform at Carnegie Hall. Sean has also won numerous awards from the US International Music Competition, US Open Music Competition, Silicon Valley Youth Music Competition, DVC/HNU Young Artist String Competition, and Korea Times Music Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with the ECYS Sinfonietta Orchestra and Livermore Pleasanton Youth Outreach Symphony.

Sean is also a passionate orchestral and chamber musician. He has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2017. Sean was selected as a member of the Junior High All-State Orchestra and the principal cellist twice of the CODA Honor Orchestra. He is a member of the California Music Preparatory as the cellist of Quintet Tranquillo, winning awards from the US Open Music Competition and MTAC VOCE State Competition. He also had the privilege to work with renowned artists and ensembles, including Thomas Mesa, Dawn Harms, Michael Dahlberg, Allegra Chapman, Alexander String Quartet, and Julliard String Quartet.

Sean has been volunteering in his community through music as the principal cellist of The Pacific Musician 2012 and Trivalley Youth Music Ensemble since 2015, performing for veterans, seniors, and hospice patients. Besides being a cellist, he is an avid archer holding US National Record at 50m double round.
