Makayla Gao, 9-year-old, is a fourth grader at Heartland Elementary School in Overland Park, KS. Makayla started taking piano lesson from Mr. Joseph Myers when she was 5 years old. She is currently under Ms. Ying-Yu Emily Yeh’s tutelage. Makayla loves playing piano and has participated in many auditions and competitions. In February 2017, Makayla won third place in Kansas City Music Teachers Association Junior Concerto Competition. She was also named first place winner in piano competition at the Mid America Music Association Festival in July 2017 and Kansas State Honors Competition in November 2016. She also participated in the Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall Festival and the National Piano Guild Auditions and received high ratings. Besides music, Makayla loves to read, draw, swim and hang out with her older sister.
