Giulio Poggia

Italian pianist Giulio Poggia graduated from the Conservatorio “Arrigo Pedrollo” di Vicenza at the age of 19 after only seven years of study. He had an unusual education. Coming from a non-musical family, he decided to study piano at the age of twelve, after hearing for the first time a record of Beethoven’s piano music. After studying under many different teachers, he auditioned to the conservatoire at the age of sixteen and was admitted to the ten years course. He then moved to London after being offered a scholarship at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance for the Postgraduate Diploma course, which he completed with Distinction.

Always described as talented and promising by his teachers, he developed quickly and has studied with many pianists, among whom Renato Maioli, Stefania Redaelli, Riccardo Zadra, Federica Righini, and Douglas Finch; he also attended many masterclasses held by wellknown musicians, such as Pascal Roge, Christiane Montandon and Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy. He is also being coached privately by Professor Derek Aviss OBE, cellist and previous Principal of Trinity College of Music.
In London he had the pleasure to be selected to perform Takemitsu’s Riverrun as a soloist with the TLSO, conducted by Garry Walker; as well as performing a solo water-themed recital at the National Maritime Museum for the Turner and the Sea Piano Series.

His love for chamber music brought him to establish Duo Asteria, with the German violinist, Corinna Hentschel. Together they have been playing in important venues such as the Wigmore Hall (as part of a Trinity Laban project), St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’ Piccadilly and the Polish Club in Exhibition Road. They have also had the pleasure of having a masterclass with Tasmin Little OBE and Peter Frankl, as well as being selected from music organisations, such as ChamberStudio, with Richard Ireland and Talent Unlimited.

Giulio recently completed his Master of Music degree with Merit, studying with Mr. Philip Fowke, at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, supported by a Scholarship offered by the school.
