Elizabeth Chung
Elizabeth Chung is currently a junior at the Horace Mann School and in the violin studio of pedagogue Elizabeth Faidley. Elizabeth performs in the advanced orchestra at the Horace Mann School and has placed in various competitions, including The Rondo Young Arts Competition, The Crescendo Competition, the Youth Maestro Competition, and the Olympic Challenge International Competition. Elizabeth has performed in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and at the Manhattan School of Music. In April, 2017, Elizabeth was a featured soloist with the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra, performing Vivaldi’s “Spring” Concerto.
Besides violin, Elizabeth is a talented writer, having placed in multiple writing contests including the Mark Twain House Royal Nonsuch Humor Writing Contest. She has also had poetry published in the Columbia University Literature Magazine. Elizabeth is also an award-winning horse-back rider and has championed at competitions such as the Lake Placid Horseshow, the Hampton Classic Horseshow, and the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida.
Elizabeth is a world traveler, having visited Laos, Cambodia, Bhutan, Botswana, Australia, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Russia, Indonesia, India, Thailand, and many European and other Asian countries. Elizabeth has performed in several of these countries, including South Korea and gave a special recital in Kenya at an orphanage for disabled children. Elizabeth believes that music is a universal language and she hopes to continue to perform during her travels.
