Seventeen year old violinist Anna Gong currently attends Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California as a senior. She began learning the violin under her grandmother Lubin Yu, and began studying later on with her mother, Bing Wang (Associate Concertmaster of the LA Philharmonic). After joining the Glendale Youth Orchestra at the age of twelve, she has made four appearances as a soloist with the orchestra as well as serving as its concertmaster since 2014. In school, she established Cadence for a Cause, a club that performs alongside Street Symphony (founded by LA Phil violinist Vijay Gupta) for homeless and underprivileged communities. Anna has won numerous top prizes in competitions hosted by the Music Teacher’s Association of California, and she has also received second place in the state finals of the VOCE competition. Over the summer she has enjoyed attending the Aspen Music Festival. Outside of music, Anna has participated in Interlochen Arts Camp as an advanced visual arts major and received multiple Gold Key awards recognizing her artistic ability from the national Scholastic Art and Writing competition. She has also played tennis with Harvard-Westlake’s junior varsity tennis team for the past three years.
