Alyssa Xu


12-year-old Alyssa Xu is a 7th grader at Community Middle School in New Jersey. After getting inspired by her sister’s piano practice, she started taking piano lessons with Dr. Zhong Chen when she was about 6. After moving to New Jersey this April, Alyssa is currently studying piano under Professor Ingrid Clarfield. She has been a pianist in her school jazz band. Furthermore, she has also played in the Hartt School’s Honors Recital (2017), won an Honorable Mention in the 40th Renee B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists (2017), won a Third Prize in the Masters of Sonata and a First Prize in the Art of Piano Competitions of the Great Composers Competition Series (2017), was a Cecilian Music Club winner (2017), was awarded a First Prize as well as a “Outstanding Performer” Prize in the Concert Artists International Virtuoso Competition II (2017), was awarded a First Place in the Crescendo International Music Competition (2017), and was also awarded a First Place in Elite International Music Competition (2017). In addition, Alyssa is passionate about doing community service with her piano talent. She participated in a benefit concert to raise funds, which will help out Indian children in need. Besides piano, Alyssa used to play the violin and was selected into the Connecticut Eastern Regional Orchestra in 6th grade. In her free time, she likes to read, do math, and continue gathering stuffed animal penguins to add to her collection.
