Cindy Yan


Cindy Yan is 11 years old and in the 6th grade of Ladue Middle School in Saint Louis, MO. She has studied piano for six years. Cindy was the 1st Place Trophy Winner for Solo Piano in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 4th grade in the Missouri Music Teachers' Association (MMTA) State Honors Piano Competition. And received the Honorable Mention Silver Medal, 3rd Place Award in 2nd grade. In April 2015, Cindy won the 1st Prize in Division I of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Young Pianist Competition, and in April 2016, she was the 2nd Prize Winner. Cindy has also been the 3rd Place Winner in Division A of the Carmel Debut International Piano Competition held in Carmel, Indiana. On July 31, 2016, Cindy performed music of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Cuellar, and Debussy in her Debut Solo Recital at Steinway Piano Gallery.

On February 19 2017, Cindy won the annual William Schatzkamer Young Artist Competition held by University City Symphony Orchestra in Saint Louis. She remains one of the youngest students ever to compete, let alone place among winners in this competition. Contest rules, from which she received a special dispensation, stipulate that auditioning instrumentalists must be ages 13 to 22, and vocalists ages 16 to 26. On April 30, 2017, Cindy successfully performed Haydn Concerto in D Major 1st movement with University City Symphony Orchestra at All Saints Church. On August 22, 2017, Cindy won the first prize of the online Best Debussy Performance held by the Great Composers Competition.

Most recently, Cindy became one of the youngest winners of the Belleville Philharmonic "Start of Tomorrow Concerto Competition" and performed with that orchestra on Saturday, October 21,2017 in Belleville, Illinois and on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Arnold, Missouri.
