Derek started playing piano at an age of five. He is currently a student of Dr. Marina Lupinacci. He was the second prize winner of Pittsburgh International Piano Competition in 2017. He won the first prize of PPTA duet competition in 2015, the second prize in 2017 and 2014, respectively. He was named as Steinway Young Artist of SSWPA in 2016 and 2015. Besides piano, Derek also likes playing violin. Other interests of Derek's are reading, science and sports.
