Devin Lai


Devin Lai, age 16, began playing violin at age 4 and currently is the Co-Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. Devin received second prize in the 2017 International Great Composers Competition in the Best Sibelius Performance Category. He won third prize in the 2016 ENKOR International Music Competition, and was named the winner of the 2016 Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra Young Artist Solo Competition and the Student Symphonic Fellowship with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, at age 14, he was accepted as a member of National Youth Orchestra NYO2 program of Carnegie Hall for the 2016 season and performed in a side-by-side concert with The Philadelphia Orchestra. Previously, Devin won first place in the Duquesne Young Artist National Competition in both 2011 and 2012. He performed as a soloist in the winners’ recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City as a Grand Winner of the National Young Musicians Showcase Competition in 2015. He appeared with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra as soloist in two Young People’s Concerts in October 2016. Outside of violin, he enjoys reading novels, watching sports, and playing golf.
