Alvin has always loved music since a young child; at the age of four; he told his mother that he wanted to learn the violin, but she postponed starting lessons until the age of five. At the age of six, he decided that he also wanted to pursue the piano, so he has been playing the violin for nine years and the piano for eight. Every year Alvin applies to music programs; he has previously attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music violin program, the Hotchkiss School piano portal, and the Interlochen School Center for the Arts summer program for both advanced violin and piano. This year he attended the Curtis Summerfest piano program virtually. Alvin also plays in an orchestra, the Claremont Young Musician's orchestra; he has been in the first violin section for three years. One competition that Alvin has attended is the American Protégé Competition where he placed first for piano and performed at Carnegie Hall as part of the winners’ recital.
