Julia Pyke


Julia Pyke is 19 years old and a second-year student at Oberlin College and Conservatory, majoring in flute performance, studying under Dr. Alexa Still. Julia began her flute studies in 2003 with Celine Ferland and was a student of Bonnie Blanchard from 2006 to 2011. She then studied with Dr. Merrie Siegel from 2011 until graduating from high school--the International School in Bellevue, WA--in 2015. Julia has taken master classes from Dr. Donna Shin, Gary Shocker, Jenny Engert, Christina Jennings, Ann Marie Yasinitsky, Dr. Hal Ott, Laura Barron, Dr. Leonard Garrison, Dr. Marianne Gedigian, and Claudia Anderson.

Julia participated in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras program for 9 years, and currently plays with the Oberlin Orchestra. She was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Seattle Flute Society (SFS) Horsfall Competition lower division in 2009, Second Place in 2011, and Third Place in 2012. She was honored to be asked to participate in a flute ensemble for the Music for Medicine Benefit Concert in May of 2011. Julia won First Place for flute solo 2007-2012 and First Place for flute concerto 2010-2013 for her age group at the Performing Arts Festival Eastside (PAFE). From 2013-2014, she was a flute tutor with Seattle Music Partners. During the summer of 2014, Julia attended Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, WA. Julia has played with the Oberlin Orchestra and Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, and currently plays with Oberlin Sinfonietta."
