Bio of Katie Kim
A San Diego native, Katie has been playing flute since age 10. She was recently selected to play in the Oberlin at Oakton Recital Series through Oberlin College. She was a prizewinner of the 2015 Grossmont College Scholarship Competition, the Lansum International Music Festival and Competition, and received 1st prize in the San Diego Flute Guild ensemble competition. Katie has held principal positions in the Oberlin Conservatory’s Opera Orchestra and Oberlin Chamber Orchestra/Sinfonietta. As part of a school-sanctioned project, Katie co-founded the Okapi Duo, a flute and guitar chamber duo, and gave performances in San Diego, L.A, and Oberlin with her guitarist partner. In 2014 she participated in the New Mexico Performing Arts Society Flute Immersion. In addition to performing, Katie has also held an internship position with the San Diego Symphony in the summer of 2015 and in January 2017. Katie is currently a third-year student at Oberlin College and Conservatory where she studies with Alexa Still.
