AJ LaBarca


AJ LaBarca, a truly dynamic 15 year old musician. He began his studies on cello at the age of 3½, piano at age 5 and jazz alto sax at age 8. He is a regular participant in the All-County Orchestra, Long Island String Festival, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and the New York Young Musician’s Ensemble and has served as principal cellist on multiple occasions. He has been invited to perform as a soloist in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, The Landmark Theater and Colden Auditorium. Internationally, he performed as a soloist and in ensemble in Paris, France in partnership with the UNESCO artist for peace on both cello and piano (2016). Additionally, he is an avid chamber musician and performed with his quartet at Alice Tully Hall as winners of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2015. He was invited to play as a piano duo at Carnegie Hall that same year. In 2015, he placed first in the Concert Festival with winning duo performance at Lincoln Center with his sister, and was a grand prize winner of the Russian Festival with a solo cello performance in Carnegie Hall. In 2016, he was awarded Best Ensemble with his siblings for their performance in Paris. AJ enjoys being a frequent performer on both piano and cello at regional nursing homes throughout the year. When he is not playing the piano or the cello, AJ plays jazz saxophone and was a soloist with the All County Jazz Festival for the last three years. He was named a Tilles Scholar in 2015.
