Tycho L Gormley


Tycho L. Gormley, 18 years old, has been studying classical piano since the age of three. In 2003, at the age of four, he made his debut at the Queensborough Community College’s annual music festival in New York as the youngest performer of their festival's history. The phenomenal response from the audience indelibly imprinted in him a love for piano performance and an unshakable belief in the power of music. He is the winner of The Duquesne National Young Artist Competition, Junior Division (2006); The GCMTA Piano Competition (2010); The HCMTA Miriam Thomann Piano Competition (2010); The Korea Times Music Competition, Piano Division (2014); City of Gaithersburg’s Young Artist Award Competition, Piano Division (2016); and Levine School of Music Marlin-Engel Solo Competition, Senior Division (2016). In 2016, as guest pianist, he was featured in the finale of The sfz Salon Series, Gaithersburg Arts Barn's Arts on the Green Project. In the spring of 2016, he performed as a soloist and in a piano-saxophone ensemble duet at the historic Westchester complex in Washington DC. In July (2016), he was awarded a travel and tuition award to attend the Illinois Chamber Music Festival. Tycho began study of piano performance at the University of Maryland last Fall (2016) and was awarded with an $8,000 a year merit based scholarship. He is a frequently invited guest pianist at the NIH Clinical Center. He has also been actively engaged in charitable piano performances for wounded veterans, patients, and the elderly to promote healing, courage, and inspiration.
