Mindy Cheng
Mindy Cheng began her piano studies at the age of five with Su-Hui Yang. She made her Carnegie Hall debut at age eleven as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival and performed there for a second time at age sixteen. Also at age sixteen, Mindy made her orchestral debut with the El Camino Youth Symphony. Mindy has won many awards including First Prizes in the Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Competition, Sylvia M. Ghiglieri Piano Competition, Thera Rabinowitch Competition, and the CMTANC International Youth Music Competition. In previous summers, Mindy has attended the Aspen Music Festival, Music@Menlo, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Colburn Academy Piano Festival. She has been privileged to have coached with many renowned artists such as Wu Han, David Finckel, Anton Nel, Gilbert Kalish, Guillaume Sutre, Movses Pogossian, Antonio Lysy, and the Danish String Quartet, and has also participated in masterclasses given by Hung-Kuan Chen, Donald and Vivian Weilerstein, Ann Schein, Ilana Vered, Ann Epperson, and David Halen. Aside from her solo work, Mindy actively and passionately pursues chamber music studies. Mindy is currently in her third year of Undergraduate Studies in Piano Performance at UCLA, studying under the tutelage of Inna Faliks. Her studies at UCLA are supported by the Peter Falk Lt. Columbo Memorial Scholarship.
