Born in Los Baños, Philippines, Matthew started playing the piano at age six and currently studies with Dr. Roberta Rust at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music. He has received awards from competitions including the 2016 LYNN Concerto Competition, 2016 FSMTA Gray Perry Young Collegiate Competition Award, the Byrd Piano Ensemble Award, and the 2015 MTNA-Florida State Competition. In 2012, he became the sole winner of the Mozart International Piano Competition in Thailand. Matthew made his debut as a classical pianist at age 16 in the Young Artist Series of the Manila Chamber Orchestra Foundation and has appeared as soloist with the Lynn Philharmonia, the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
