Marla Nistico
Marla Nistico MM is an American classical flutist who graduated in 2015 from the Eastman School of Music with a Master's Degree in Performance and Literature. She now lives in Asheville, NC with her husband and duo partner, guitarist Daniel Nistico. Together, they form Duo Vela. The ensemble has performed internationally in concert halls across east China, and extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand. This upcoming May, Duo Vela will return to China for a 5 day tour in Beijing with Guitarw Music Workshop.
Ms. Nistico is beginning to establish her reputation as a soloist. This summer, she will record her debut album titled: The Virtuosic Flute which will include works by Karg-Elert, Paganini, Bach, and Dohnanyi. This highly anticipated project contains pieces loved and cherished by Marla.
In 2012 and 2010, Marla placed first in the Richmond Flute Fest Collegiate Competition. In 2011, she won first place in the South Carolina Flute Society's Young Artist Competition. She attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2012 where she studied privately with Bonita Boyd and Martha Aarons. In 2010, Marla attended the Aria International Summer Academy where she studied with Damian Bursill-Hall and Bonita Boyd.
Ms. Nistico has performed in masterclasses for some of the most renowned flutists including:
Andreas Blau, Aaron Goldman, Carol Wincenc, Ransom Wilson, Brooks de Wetter-Smith, The Imani Winds, and Mimi Stillman among others.
