Robert Shlyakhtenko, 11, has been a piano student of Teresa de Jong Pombo at the Colburn School of Performing Arts since the age of 4. An avid musician, he is a winner of numerous competitions, including the MTAC Orange County West Branch Piano Solo competition (1st places in 2014 and 2016, 2nd place in 2015), Regional Bach Festival (2014, 2015, 2016), several open categories of the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (1st, 2nd, 3rd places), Musical Arts Competition of Orange County (1st place in 2013, 2nd place in 2014), CAPMT district VIII Sonata Festival (4th place in 2014, 1st place in 2016), CAPMT Contemporary Festival (district level winner, 2017; alternate, 2016), Classics Alive Young Artist Auditions (2nd place, 2016). Last year, he passed level 8 of Certificate of Merit in piano as a 5th grader. Robert performs regularly in the Colburn School Friday Night and School Recital series. In addition to piano, Robert studies music theory and violin. Robert is a recipient of the Young Musicians Foundation scholarship and the Colburn School Merit Scholarship.
