Han Shi
Violinist, educator and cultural ambassador Han Shi was born in Tianjin, China, and began violin lessons when she was eight years old. Ten years later, she moved to New York City to pursue the Bachelor of Music and later Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School. During her time as a student, she discovered and cultivated her passions for chamber music, new music, community engagement and education.
Ms. Shi is a co-founder of the Mirage Quartet, first prize winners of the international ENKOR Competition. Her performance highlights include concerts in Alice Tully Hall with the China Hua Xia Chamber Ensemble, at Juilliard’s ChamberFest and the Sarasota Music Festival, as member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, and as coconcertmaster and principal second violin of the Juilliard Orchestra. She has worked with world-class conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Ivan Fischer, and Paavo Järvi.
Ms. Shi regularly performs with the New Juilliard Ensemble and AXIOM, and has premiered numerous compositions, two of which were dedicated to her by composers Ross Griffey and Aaron Severini.
As a passionate educator, Ms. Shi is a recipient the Morse Teaching Artist Fellowship and a teaching fellow for Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program. Also an arts administrator, Ms. Shi is working for Juilliard Global Ventures as the International Social Media Responder, helping to develop content strategy for Juilliard’s social media presence in China as Juilliard prepares to open its first international partner institution—the Tianjin Juilliard School.
