Sam Sykes
Sam Sykes began his love of music at an early age as a participant in “Kindermusic.” He studied cello with Karen Geyer at the Northeast Iowa School of Music from the age of three to the age of nine. Sam then continued his studies with Kevin Price-Brenner whom he has studied with since 2010.
Sam has played in a variety of orchestras including the Dubuque Youth Symphony since 2010, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Orchestra since 2013, and acquired principal chair in the NEISTA Honors Orchestra in 2016. He has participated in many competitions including the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Concerto Competition. In 2014, he placed second in the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and won the following year. This gave him the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. Sam will be attending the Interlochen Center for the Arts this summer as a member of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra.
