Kristina Yau


Kristina Yau, from Vancouver, Canada, is studying piano under Martin Karlicek at McGill University. Kristina started playing piano at the age of four and previously studied with Lorraine Ambrose at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Throughout her musical journey, she won numerous awards and scholarships nationally and internationally. She was a prizewinner twice at the Canadian Music Competition, winner of the Edith Lando Gifted Youth Competition and Phyllis E. Salter Piano Competition 4 years consecutively up to 2014, and scholarship winner of the Bach Prelude and Fugue open age group of the Richmond Music Festival. In 2014, she received the red certificate in the concert group division from the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival and performed at the gala of the Burnaby Clef Festival. Recently, she won first place at the Art of Piano Competition hosted by the Great Composers Competition and third place at the Enkor International Music Competition. She also received second place at the American Protégé International Competition and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Besides piano, Kristina assists vulnerable individuals in developing areas by travelling to Latin America and Africa to provide direct assistance and leading humanitarian initiatives back home as Founder of World Vision Student Committee and President of the McGill Students’ Chapter of the Canadian Liver Foundation.
