Julian Andres Bohorquez Triana
Julian Bohorquez can be defined as a passionate clarinetist who has developed his career through hard work. Originally from the small town of Bituima, Colombia, Julian has won the Lamont Solo Honors Concerto Competition (2014), Third Place Prize at the Boulder Philharmonic Young Artist Concerto Competition (2013), Third Place at the Grand Junction Symphony Young Artist Competition (2015), Honorable Mention at the Denver Young Artists Orchestra Concerto Competition (2013), Honorable Mention at the Coeur d’Alene Symphony’s National Young Artists Competition and he was Finalist at the Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists Competition (2014). Currently, he is studying at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music with Dr. Jeremy W. Reynolds who has been important in his career not only because he brought Julian to the University of Denver in 2012, but also because he has greatly enriched his musical aptitudes, knowledge, and philosophy. At the age of sixteen Julian started his professional studies in music performance at Universidad Central under the tutelage of Professor Jairo Peña. Later, in 2007, he had the opportunity to study with Professor Ivan Petruzziello, who dramatically enriched his abilities not only as a clarinet player but also as a musician. Professor Petruzziello helped Julian to establish his clarinet technique, his clarinet sound, and his musical taste. Furthermore, during his time at Universidad Central, Julian won a clarinet position in the Banda Sinfónica de Cundinamarca (Cundinamarca Wind Orchestra) which was the most important wind ensemble of the National Wind Ensembles Program. Around the same time he was part of the professional ensemble Todos de Madera (Everybody of wood) where he performed traditional Colombian music. Julian’s career as a clarinetist has been possible thanks to the support of all his family, all his friends, all his professors and the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.
