Curtis Vanzandt
Curtis Vanzandt is a second-year Masters student and graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma. As a soloist, Curtis has competed in local and national competitions, most recently being announced as a semifinalist for the 2016 North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition. He has commissioned several pieces for saxophone, and recently gave the premiere of Lucas Garner's ""Odysseus"" for saxophone and wind ensemble. He has presented at several conferences as a soloist and chamber musician. Curtis performs exclusively on D'addario reeds.
Curtis currently holds the baritone chair of the Copperhead Quartet, the premiere graduate saxophone quartet at the University of Oklahoma. Most recently, the Copperhead Quartet was named as the 2nd Prize Winners of the 2016 Coltman Chamber Music Competition, in Austin, TX. He previously held the baritone chair of the XY Quartet. As a member of the XY Quartet, Curtis competed in national competitions, culminating in the 2013 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, in South Bend, Indiana. The XY Quartet performed in competitions and conferences across the United States, and were featured several times, including as the soloists for Warren Barker's ""Capriccio"" for Saxophone Quartet and Band, with the Tennessee Tech Symphony Band.
