Charlotte Miles


Charlotte Miles is 13 years old and studies cello with David Berlin, Principal Cellist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She commenced cello lessons at the age of four, and was awarded a Licentiate Diploma (L.Mus.A) - the final examination of the Australian Music Examination Board - with distinction at the age of 12.

Charlotte has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall in New York (2013) and Opéra Bastille in Paris (2015) after winning 1st prizes in international music competitions. In Australia she has won the $2000 Richard Mills 1st prize in the 2014 Melbourne Recital Centre Bach Competition, as well as over 50 prizes in local music competitions. She is principal cellist of the Melbourne String Ensemble, and toured Germany with them in 2015, undertaking masterclasses with leading German cellists.

In 2015 Charlotte was invited to perform at the Melbourne Cello Festival in masterclasses as well as in the Rising Stars Concert. She also performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Surrey Hills Orchestra in 2015. She recently returned from the USA where she was invited by Ralph Kirshbaum to perform in a mass cello ensemble of 100 cellists invited from around the world, at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, as part of the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival.
