Alex Qian, 13, from Utah USA, is an 8th grade student at Mountain Ridge Junior High School. Alex started taking piano lessons when he was 5 years old. He currently is a piano student of Dr. Irene Peery-Fox.
Ever since Alex started his piano journey, he's won many awards in various competitions. Among them, are 1st place awards in the annual Encore Keyboard Competitions and 3rd place award in the 2012 UMTA Concerto Competition. Alex won 2nd place in the 2014 American Protégé International Music Competition, and performed at the Winner's Recital at Carnegie Hall in 2015. In 2016, Alex was selected as the winner in Utah Philharmonic Orchestra Annual Concerto Competition and was invited to perform as a soloist with the orchestra in the May concert.
Besides piano, Alex also plays trumpet as the first chair in the school band. He also loves sports, and is a skillful player at football, soccer and tennis.
