Vera Kong


Vera was born in 2002 in the US and began her violin and piano studies at the age of 5. She continued her violin studies more seriously after she moved to China in 2007; and had since then won numerous awards, including 1st & 2nd prize of 2013 & 2012 Hong Kong International Violin Competition, respectively. After moving back to the US in 2014, she has been studying under Iman Khosrowpour who helps to take her playing to new level- resulting in 1st prize at both the 2015 Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and 2015 Musical Arts Competition of Orange County (MACOC). 

She is currently one of the Concert Masters in the Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings (PSSS), and she will be performing at the Rene and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. In 2013, she made her solo debut at the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou. During the same summer, she was the youngest member awarded scholarship to the renown 2013 Montecito International Music Festival (MIMF). In 2014, Vera had the distinguished honor to perform solo with Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO). As concert master for American International School of Guangzhou, she was the youngest to be selected to represent her school at the South East Asia (SEA) Honors Orchestra.  She has also received Master class from Emmanuel Borok at the 2015 Irvine Music Festival (IMF).
          
Outside of her music, Vera loves reading, mathematics and competes in the sport of saber fencing, where she is ranked in top 25 in US in her age group. She has also received US President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, as well as being accepted to Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Summer program to further her studies in mathematics.
