Sophia Suwiryo


Sophia Suwiryo, age 7, is in first grade at St. Mary School Hyde Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. She studies piano at the Suzuki Piano Program in the Preparatory Department of University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music with Dr. Takako Hayase Frautschi.

At her young age, she has won several piano competitions, awards and scholarship. She won the Grand Prize Winner and Most Artistic Award in the Elementary category at 2014 Carmel Debut International Piano Competition. She also won First Place Winner in Primary Division and Best Cadenza Award at 2015 88 Piano Concerto Competition, and performed with Northern Kentucky Youth Sinfonia. She also won First Place Winner in the Elementary A category at 2015 Nathaniel Patch Piano Competition. She also achieved High Honors Awards in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Ohio MTA Audition’s Festival.

Last year, she received National Gold Medal in Preparatory B Piano Assessments from The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. She also won 2015-2016 Gino DiMario Scholarship - Preparatory Department of University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music. She recently won First Place Winner in the Primary Division at 2016 Tri-State Piano Concerto Competition and performed with the Rookwood String Quartet. She also won First Place Winner of the Music of 19th Century, the 1st edition of Great Composers International Music Competition.

She also participated in many piano performances and community services such as performing piano at the retirement community, the Dragonfly Foundation Fundraising, Macy’s Arts Sampler 2015: CCM Preparatory Suzuki Piano Recital at Taft Museum, and Asian Culture Festival at Cincinnati Museum Center.

Besides piano, Sophia enjoys playing chess and competed in several chess tournaments. She also likes baking, drawing, and listening to music.
