Lynch showed a great interest in piano and classical music at the tender age
of three and learnt to play the instrument by simply listening to recordings.
In 2012, Sheng-Yuan began formal lessons with Shan Deng, piano lecturer at
University of Tasmania. Since then, Sheng-Yuan has performed in many public concerts including a concert in China, as well as the International Arts Festival and other events in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. Sheng-Yuan has also had many competition successes including first prize at the National Sydney Golden Talent Cup Competition, first prize at the Brenda Hean Pianoforte Competition, and also winning the Tasmanian Music Teachers Association’s Award for most promising junior pianist. In 2015, he was the winner of the Hobart Eisteddfod Geoffrey Lancaster Award and Lady Cross Trophy (Junior) in 2015. He was also one of seven nation-wide participants to be selected to attend the Little Lev Masterclass in Brisbane QLD.
