Nathan Rim


"Nathan Rim is 16 and started playing the violin at six years old, picking up the viola in 2013. In New York, he studied with Yu Jeong Lee, Yi-Fang Huang, and Molly Carr. Nathan currently studies at the California Institute of Music with Pasha Tseitlin. He also plays in the San Diego Youth Symphony and holds assistant principal position in the viola section.

Nathan was a finalist in the 2012 American Protégé Concerto Competition and performed in the Kaufman Center, and in 2013 he was a finalist in the Long Island Conservatory International Music Competition. Nathan was one of two soloists selected to perform at the 2015 La Jolla Music Society Discovery Series Prelude Recital. He has also won 1st place in the 2015 VOCE State Competition for chamber, 3rd place in the 2015 senior division Goodlin Competition, and 1st place in the regional 2016 VOCE chamber competition.

Nathan has participated in the New York Youth Symphony Chamber program in 2013 to 2014, the Laus Chamber Festival in 2014, Echo Music Festival in 2014, San Diego Youth Symphony (2014-present), and the SDYS International Youth Symphony (2015). He also had the honor of performing at Disney Hall in Los Angeles last summer at the Idyllwild Chamberfest. He was the principal violist of the Yorktown High School Orchestra and is currently principal violist at Torrey Pines High School Advanced Orchestra.

Nathan is currently a junior at Torrey Pines High School and plays in a string trio with his two brothers, who play violin and cello."
