Kristi Kim


Sixteen year-old Kristi Kim began her cello studies seven years ago with Dorothy Muggeridge, and is a junior at the Laurel Springs School. She studies with Ronald Leonard, and will begin studies at the Colburn Music Academy this fall. Kristi has received numerous awards including first place at the California American String Teachers Association State Solo Competition Finals, first place at the Los Angeles Violoncello Society Scholarship Competition, first place at the Music Teachers’ Association of California VOCE State Finals, and a Promise Award from the Music Center Spotlight Awards. Kristi has been a Young Musicians Foundation Scholar since 2013, and was recently named a Classics Alive Young Artist.  As a winner of multiple concerto competitions, Kristi has performed as a soloist with the Beach Cities Symphony, Brentwood Symphony, Montecito International Music Festival Orchestra, Santa Monica College Symphony, Southwestern Youth Music Festival Orchestra, Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra, and the Mount Orchestra. Most recently, Kristi was invited to compete in the IX International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Novosibirsk, Russia. In March 2012, Kristi played at Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of the mass cello ensemble at the closing concert of the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival. As a chamber musician, Kristi’s flute trio, coached by Verna Balch, won first place at the Music Teachers’ Association of California VOCE State Finals. This summer, Kristi will be attending the Heifetz International Music Institute.
