Katherine
Audas, age 20, is a sophomore at the Rice University Shepherd School of Music
where she studies cello performance with Norman Fischer. She began playing
the cello at age 4. Prior to college she studied with William Wharton, a
professor of cello at the University of Idaho and Dr. Jesus Castro-Balbi, a
professor of cello at TCU. She has performed in master classes for
Christopher Adkins, Thomas Loewenheim, Gautier Capuçon, Ko Iwasaki, Lynn
Harrell and Ralph Kirshbaum. After winning their young artist competition, Katherine made her solo debut with the Meridian Symphony at the age of 11. In 2011, she won first place in the Young Artist competition for the Music In the Mountains Festival in Durango, CO. In 2013, she won first prize in the International Crescendo Music Awards, Junior division, in Tulsa, OK. In 2015, she won the college division division of the Haydn cello concerto competition at the TCU Cellofest. This spring she won the Grand Prize in the Enkor International Music Competition, as well as the Gold Medal and Audience Favorite award at the Texas Young Artist Music Competition. Katherine has performed with the San Juan Symphony in CO the Music in the Mountains Conservatory Orchestra in Durango, CO, the TCU Chamber Orchestra in Fort Worth, TX, the Symphony of Toys in Dallas, Tx, the Boise Philharmonic in Boise, ID, the Walla Walla Symphony in Walla Walla, WA, and the SummerFest Orchestra in McCall, ID. |
