Julie Strauser, soprano, is currently a Senior at DePauw University pursuing a Vocal Performance degree and is studying with Professor Caroline Smith. Recently, Julie performed the roles of Amy in DePauw Opera’s Little Women, Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea and Lucille in Parade. As a part of DPU's Music of the 21st Century and Living Composers series, she, as a soloist, has performed works in concert by Jason Robert Brown, Roberto Sierra, John Corigliano, Adam Guettel, and was selected to sing on the Libby Larsen Master Class. In the summer of 2015 Julie joined Opera in the Ozarks as a Studio Artist and in July 2014, she performed in the Bay View Summer Music Festival's SOARS program. She has also won or placed in every State and Regional NATS Competitions entered, was a semi-finalist for the National 2014 NATS Collegiate Competition, won first place in the Indiana National Society of Arts and Letters competition, was a winner of the DPU concerto competition 3 years in a row, and was awarded the Presser Undergraduate Award. Other roles at DePauw include Heidi in [Title of Show], Serpetta in La Finta Giardiniera, and Cinderella's Mother in Into the Woods. Next year, Julie plans to pursue her masters degree in Vocal Performance at Southern Methodist University. |
