Jenny Lu has recently completed her research Master candidature in piano performance at Monash University, under the tutelage of Drs. Tamara Smolyar and Joel Crotty. Her research concerns the concept of narrativity in music examined through the compositions of Nikolai Medtner. Jenny performs as a soloist and a chamber musician with an array of repertoire. Her current solo program embraces the compositions of Nikolai Medtner, Oddvar Lonner, Kaija Saariaho, Dmitri Shostakovich and Carl Vines.
Jenny has had the pleasure to perform at various prestigious venues such as the Abbotsford Convent, Duneira Estate, Lyceum Club, Melbourne Recital Centre, St. Paul’s Cathedral and University of the Third Age. Her academic excellence has been recognized with scholarships and prizes such as the Joan Earle Prize for best performance and First Class Honours. Jenny has presented her paper and performance of Saariaho’s composition at the Gender Diversity in Music Making Conference in 2018.
An ardent writer and voracious reader, Jenny writes poetry, prose, fiction and scholarly journal articles. Jenny likewise actively participates in a range of mentoring, teaching and volunteer positions to advocate and share the enchantment of music.
