Caroline Sonett


Caroline Sonett has performed on the stages of several of the world’s great concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Kennedy Center and has been featured on the McGraw Hill Young Artist’s Showcase as the first prize winner of the Friday Woodmere Music Club’s Young Artist Competition. She is a founding member of The Songwriters Orchestra and has served as president of Columbia Classical Performers.

She was featured as soloist with the Columbia University Orchestra in 2012, performing Mozart’s Flute Concerto, K. 313. She has held the principal flute fellowship of the New York Youth Symphony and has performed with the Columbia University Orchestra, Eastman Philharmonic, Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, the Bronx Opera Company, and the Khorikos Ensemble. Recently, she has performed in the New York Philharmonic’s subsidiary program “Very Young Composers,” playing alongside members of the New York Philharmonic.

In the summer of 2016, Caroline will serve as a fellow at the Talis Festival and Academy in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Caroline has recently held fellowships at Norfolk Music Festival Chamber Music Session and New Music Workshop (2015), and at the Atlantic Music Festival (2013). In previous summers, Caroline has attended the Domaine Forget International Festival in Quebec, Eastern Music Festival, Saarburg International Chamber Music Festival in Germany, and the Brevard International Music Festival. She has performed in masterclasses presented by William Bennett, Andreas Blau, Jasmine Choi, Robert Dick, Marianne Gedigian, Emmanuel Pahud, Keith Underwood and Carol Wincenc. Caroline is a dedicated chamber musician, performing internationally with her flute/viola/harp ensemble, Trio Alexander.

Caroline is currently earning the Master of Music in Performance at the Eastman School of Music as a student of Bonita Boyd and earned the Bachelor of Arts in Music from Columbia University in 2014. Previous teachers have included Nicholas Duchamp, Jeanne Baxstresser and Soo-Kyung Park. As a teaching assistant at Eastman, Caroline teaches secondary flute lessons, flute methods class, and flute doubling for undergraduate jazz majors. Caroline will begin her doctorate at Eastman in the fall of 2016.
