Andrew Huang


Andrew Huang, age 13, is an 8th grade student at Lee Burnerson Middle School in Westlake Ohio. He began studying piano at the age of 5 and has received a rating of Unanimous Superior consecutive times at the annual National Federation of Music Clubs’ Festival in Cleveland. He received the Outstanding Junior Award by OFMC in Oct 2018. He has received 2 gold cups and performed twice in their Honors Recital and also once at District Conference. He was awarded Honorable Mention at 2018 CEOMTA / Graves Competition for Piano Solo Junior Division. He also participated in 2017 and 2018 Northeast Ohio Music Teacher Association Buckeye Auditions for and was chosen as an Honorable Mention Winner in 2017. He won the 1st prize for the 6th Grade group of Junior Fortnightly Awards in 2017. He won the 3rd prize at 2016 and 2018 Best Chopin Performance Competition, the 2nd prize of the 2017 The Music of America and the 3rd prize of 2016 The Music of 19th Century. He was awarded a semifinalist in the 2016 Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition in Solo Intermediate Group. He won the 2nd place in the 2016 Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Junior Division Elizabeth Gerber Competition for 6th Graders with piano solo. He was chosen as an Honorable Mention Winner of American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition 2016 and performed in Carnegie Hall in 2016.

Andrew started to play duet since last Summer. His partner and he were named the representative in the East Central MTNA Competition “Senior Piano Duet” in Jan 2019 and will compete in the MTNA National Competitions Finals in Mar 2019.

Andrew is very passionate about music and enjoys performing at any opportunity. He has performed a number of times at Junior Fortnightly recitals, senior houses and other public places, as well as talent shows and concerts held at both his school and other local high schools. In addition, Andrew plays violin, trumpet and guitar and has been joining the school Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Choir for years. Other interests he has include singing, sports, playing video games and mathematics. In the future, Andrew would like to be a doctor, a computer engineer, a pianist or a music producer.
