Vivian Xu



Vivian Xu, 16, is a junior at East Brunswick High School in East Brunswick, New Jersey and studies piano with Professor Ingrid Clarfield of Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Her former teacher was Mrs. AnLi-Young. Vivian has won numerous top awards including First Prize & Best Performer at Vivo International Music Competition, First Place in American Protégé International Concerto Competition and in American Fine Arts Festival International Concerto Competition, Third Prize in ENKOR International Music Competition and in International Grande Music Competition, Finalist in Dubois Piano Festival & Competition and in International Young Artist Piano Competition, and Alternate winner at MTNA State Junior Performance Competition. She has also received First Prize for Associated Music Teachers League Scholarship and in New Jersey Music Teachers Association Young Musicians Competition. In addition, she has won prizes in the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition, National League of Performing Arts, Steinway Society Scholarship Competition, and Piano Teachers Congress Honors Program. An Elmer & Louise Menges Scholarship Recipient, Vivian made her orchestral debut with the Ambler Symphony in 2013. During the summers of 2012 and 2013, Vivian attended International Institute for Young Musicians (IIYM) and worked with renowned pianists including Steven Spooner and Dr. Jack Winerock. As a result of being selected as the winner of the New Jersey State Conference Master Class, Vivian has also worked with distinguished pianist, Dr. Barry J. Snyder. She has performed at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Kennedy Center, and all three halls of Carnegie Hall. Vivian is also a flutist in the Central Jersey Region Concert Band and an avid member of her school’s competitive math team. In her spare time, Vivian enjoys listening to various genres in music, playing tennis, skiing, traveling, watching rom-coms, and hanging out with her friends.
