Angelus Matthew Roxas


Angelus Matthew Changho Roxas, 17, from Leawood, Kansas, began piano lessons at age three. He began to study piano under Ms. Ying-Yu Yeh in 2006. In May 2016, he was a third place winner in the Great Composers Competition – Music of the 19th Century. In March of the same year, he placed second in the GCC – Music of Germany and Austria. Matthew was a second prize winner of the 2016 International Music Competition London Grand Prize Virtuoso. He was invited to perform at Royal Albert Hall in London. His passion and determination led him to achieve becoming the third place winner of 2016 American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, second place winner of 2015 American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, and the third place winner of 2013 American Protégé International Romantic Music Competition. He has performed three times at the Winners Recital at Carnegie Hall, New York, and he returns for his fourth time to perform in the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition Recital. Matthew was awarded third place winner in the Mid-America Music Festival 2014. He was one of the top ten winners in the Sigma Alpha Iota Junior High Audition in 2014 and was invited to perform in the honors recital in Lawrence, KS. He received Honorable Mention award in the 2014 ENKOR International Piano and Violin Competition. Matthew was named the second place winner in the Kansas Music Teachers Association State Honors Competitions in 2012. He is an active member of the National Piano Guild Auditions, 11 years in National Auditions, 10 years in National Roll, and received the Early Bach Medal Award in 2013. Matthew also received the Highest Honors with Special Merit in the Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall Festival several times. He continues to strive in becoming a concert pianist.
